I have my skyline for performance and am leaning toward a cheap-to-run-disposable. this or an old smart I won't feel bad about whipping on.
Edit: and if oppo is going to say it sucks, oppo is going to justify that opinion

It's terrible but next to a Smart, I dunno really. I guess the Spark would be better...

Do we have an option 3? Preferably an option that doesn't suck?
What about a fiesta?

Just lease a Leaf if you want to save on fuel.
If you want a car that's almost literally disposable, buy a used Aveo. You can probably pick one up for something like $3k.

The Spark is far superior to the Smart. It also has more power and a much better interior than a Mirage. The Mirage is straight out of 1995.

Warning: I work at a Chevy dealer
My $.02: good car for the money, you have a choice of manual or CVT for the 14 MY. If looking at a 13MY it won't have the CVT option and instead you'll have an auto option.
They do have a nice roomy interior, if buying an LS keep in mind that only the rear hatch will have a powered lock. The engine is reasonable for such a light car. If moving up, the mylink radio is a nice feature with Bluetooth streaming.
For highway driving, it can be a little sketchy due to crosswinds and light car.
Either way look at it and enjoy the free maintenance (oil change and tire rotations) for 2years/24,000 miles. 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
If I think of anything else I'll throw it in here.

Or a Volt if you need more range.

Why you don't get the Spark's value and buy an incredibly better used car?

Spark > smart. Kick in the head > smart.
